The Alliance has built a strong track record of concrete actions in the areas of policy, advocacy, capacity-building, women’s leadership, climate finance, and knowledge-generation. Establishing an effective working model that deploys top-down perspectives and bottom-up approaches in tandem, the GGCA has set new precedents for how organizations can successfully scale-up impacts by working together and using participatory approaches.
The GGCA continues to be recognized as a unique and effective partnership that brings a human face to climate change decision–making and initiatives by working together to achieve our main objectives:
Integrate a gender perspective into policy and decision making in order to ensure international mandates and other legal instruments on gender equality are fully implemented.
Ensure that financing mechanisms on mitigation and adaptation address the needs of poor women and men equitably. Billions of dollars will be spent to finance climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives. In order to ensure that climate change finance mechanisms are gender responsive, the GGCA collaborates with women’s economic justice and environmental networks, governments, and the private sector to deliver gender guidelines on adaptation, mitigation, and private sector finance.
Build capacity at all levels to design and implement gender-responsive climate change policies, strategies and programmes. The GGCA developed the Training Manual on Gender and Climate Change focused on the Bail Action Plan building blocks of mitigation, adaptation, technology, and finance. Since 2008, hundreds of delegates have been trained using the Manual, which is now available in 4 languages.
Share practical tools, information, and methodologies to facilitate the integration of gender into policy and programming. The members of the GGCA have produced cutting edge tools and publications in the area of gender and climate change and regularly exchange knowledge and explore emerging areas. Please see the list Publications by GGCA Members.
